Six things I learned writing daily on Medium through June
On the first of last month I decided to start writing a daily post on Medium. I had no preconceived ideas about what to write. Nor did I have a clear idea why I thought it was important to do it.
But I did it. Every day.
I hope to continue for another month.
Here’s what I have learned so far:
1. Fear comes in many guises.
2. Although fear may not leave you entirely, it can be taken for granted as part of the process.
3. Finding your own voice takes longer than you think.
4. Trying to organise thoughts on the page is often like herding cats.
5. Being honest is often better than being clever.
6. When writing becomes a habit, it frees you to invest more in what you’re writing than in the process of writing.
These lessons may not be evident yet in what I write but I’m confident that the month ahead will see an improvement in my writing process, a clearer idea of why I write, and the steady approach towards a voice that is genuinely mine.
Then again, I may be overly optimistic.
