It’s easy to get caught up in the frenzy, especially if your social media feeds amplify your own doubts and worries.

It’s easy to get caught up in fear as you project all the things than can go wrong.

It’s easy to believe you have the answers. That if only things panned out in the way you though best, things would be perfect.

Anger. Fear. Confusion. Arrogance. These are the common responses to unexpected events.

The temptation is to make sure your voice is added to the shouts of the wronged.

And yet.

Sometimes it’s better to take a step back, watch and listen and wait. Wait, primarily, for the chance to act with compassion. Understanding. Tolerance.

Writing through the worst of it by turning up at the page and continuing to practise. Meditating on paper.

When the time is right to act and to do the right thing, the space and time gained by finding the truth of your own beliefs and feelings will let you act in ways more likely to make a positive impact.

For now, peace and writing.
